Documentaries that look back on a tragedy have a unique balancing act of conveying the difficult subject matter while honoring the victims and survivors. Animations and graphics for DOWNFALL: THE CASE AGAINST BOEING were designed to feel contemporary in keeping with the subject matter’s recent history. Many of the graphics integrated archival media spanning decades and a broad range of mediums. Reverence for those sources guided every aspect of the corresponding design approach.
DOWNFALL required some graphics that would distill complex technical systems into a clear visual language that millions of viewers could easily understand. We worked with the filmmakers to design a style that simplified existing technical drawings and schematics focusing on the core data needed.
To coincide with DOWNFALL’s Sundance Premiere we designed a logo and bumper for Moxie Films to evoke the production company’s moxie, grit, gravitas, and investigative journalism represented by a turning lens.
